Sheriff's Office

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office provides daily law enforcement throughout Troup County, specifically in the unincorporated areas but often within the city limits of LaGrange, Hogansville, and West Point. The primary duties of the Troup County Sheriff's Office are to maintain social order within prescribed ethical and constitutional limits while providing professional law enforcement services; to serve the citizens through dedication and cooperation in order to preserve the peace, maintain order, and protect life and property by using proven law enforcement standards that respect individual dignity and rights; and to promote dedication to continuous improvement over all operations. To attain this, the department enforces the law in a fair and impartial manner, while recognizing both the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons.

The department is constantly seeking new ways to promote crime prevention. Currently, the department works with youth to relay the message that drugs and crime do not lead to happiness. The Troup County Sheriff’s Office is also largely involved in the Sheriff’s Academy for Youth (SAY), which is held each summer for children ages 9-14. Their Junior Deputy program, which is continuously very popular, teaches local third grade students about the ins and outs of law enforcement.

To further promote crime prevention, a member of the Troup County Sheriff’s Department routinely directs Neighborhood Watch programs in different communities throughout Troup County. To ensure the safety of our elderly and disabled population, the Sheriff’s Office utilizes the “Are You Okay?” computer program, which routinely checks in on seniors, giving them and their families an extra peace of mind. The Troup County Sheriff’s Office strives to promote integrity, commitment, safety, quality, and pride.
